August will be the month of all the action on the water in the Whitsundays starting with Whitsunday Reef Festival .
The vibrant coastal town of Airlie Beach will come alive in August, as the Whitsunday Reef Festival hits town. The annual favourite festival, is a delicious combination of family fun, community events, all-night celebrations, food, fireworks and one of the biggest street parties in the north.The festival, now in its 18th year, is themed Heart of the Reef, and celebrates the lifestyle in the Whitsundays, on the edge of the Coral Sea, in the middle of the Great Barrier Reef. Following the Reef Festival is The Airlie Beach Race Week (ABRW) Festival of Sailing. ABRW is recognised Australia-wide as a vibrant and exciting week of action, mixing six days of spectacular sailing with seven nights of free entertainment on shore. Most of the off-water action takes place at the Whitsunday Sailing Club August 8-15, with the exception of a Family Fun Day at Northerlies Beach Bar and Grill on Tuesday, August 13. Hamilton Island Race Week is one of Australia’s favourite yachting events and a firm fixture on the international sailing calendar.
